Prevent Autism Wandering Accidents with a Tracking Device

There are few moments more heart-stopping than turning around and realizing that a loved one who suffers from autism has wandered off. Autism wandering is something that no parent or caregiver ever wants to experience, but it occurs frequently and sometimes has tragic results.

In an article issued by Autism Speaks, Senior Executive Director Bob Lowery of the Missing Children Division for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children reports that almost half of children with autism will wander away from safety. What’s worse is that many of these kids are drawn to dangerous areas such as railroads or bodies of water. They can inadvertently pose an extreme hazard to themselves by wandering near these areas.

Fortunately, modern technology offers many solutions. According to Autism Speaks, there are tracking devices that can be worn around the ankle or wrist, which will help you locate your loved one if they wander off. It is recommended that parents or caregivers of a person with autism speak to local law enforcement about these devices, which can work either on a radio frequency or by GPS. With one of these devices, you can simply strap it onto the arm or leg of the person at risk. If, heaven forbid, your loved one does wander off, it will be relatively easy to track them down.

If you have a loved one with a tendency to wander, it would definitely be wise to invest in a good tracking bracelet. Hopefully, you won’t ever have to use it, but it will give you peace of mind to know that it’s there.
